Using research evidence to improve Australian aged care: funding, staff ratios and public reporting

Thursday, 24 June 2021
1.30pm - 2.30pm (AEST)

This seminar will overview the research undertaken by the Australian Health Services Research Institute (AHSRI) University of Wollongong that was the basis of three key recommendations of the Aged Care Royal Commission. All three recommendations have been adopted by the government with implementation plans announced as part of the May 2021 federal budget. AHSRI designed a new classification and funding model for residential aged care called the Australian National Aged Care Classification. This will be implemented in 2022. AHSRI also undertook research commissioned by the Royal Commission on mandated staff ratios and on the need for public reporting. Progressive implementation of both will begin in 2022.
